about me

Well, this is awkward.

Although I find it easy and exciting to write about people, places and things that don’t have my name on them, writing about myself is another matter. Right now, it feels like an itchy blend of hubris and vulnerability that might generate a bad case of hives. But if you’ve made it this far, I suppose I should tell you something about myself.

Writing is something I’ve loved since childhood, second only to reading great stories. When I discovered that writing and storytelling were two things that came quite naturally to me, I was excited. When I learned that I could declare myself an English major and earn a college degree for doing more of it, I was thrilled. When I realized that I could make a living at it as a copywriter, I was damn near ecstatic.

Cut to a 20-plus year career that has allowed me to collaborate with exceptionally creative folks to use my words to captivate, cajole and catalyze human behavior. I’ve had the opportunity to work on some of the niftiest niche brands and the greatest of global brands. From healthcare to automotive to financial services and beyond, my copywriting experience spans time, space, channels and categories.

A few years ago, I took the bold step of creating my very own e-commerce startup brand that blended my love of yoga with my love of animals. DownDog Yoga Mats invited people to upload photos of their pets to create one-of-a-kind mats featuring their fur babies. Best of all, a portion of the purchase of each mat was donated to the ASPCA to help homeless pets find their forever homes.

This was an exciting and seminal skill-building time for me, as I was challenged to learn even more marketing skills (influencers, AdWords and Shopify - oh my!) to help build my fledgling business. Though the launch was quite successful, I decided to give up the business when my father became ill and I moved from Connecticut to Oklahoma City to be closer to him in the last year of his life.

Although I find almost every assignment to be exciting (because there’s always something new to learn), I get the most satisfaction in putting my talents to use to improve the lives of others. And because doing this does not always pay the bills, I have enjoyed donated my time to non-profits like the Red Cross, PAWS (Pet and Animal Welfare Society) and Oklahoma City’s own Spark Creative Lab.

Now, instead of nattering on and on about myself, I’d really like to learn something about you, and see if we might work together. Drop me an email and let’s collaborate!
